Trouble getting RedBaron3d to run ?  here is the solution. on Windows or on Linux. Easy, tested, works.

 Red Baron 3D.... is (imo) still one of the best flight simulator games ever produced. With the mods applied, it still looks very good.
The game play is it's strong point.
You can enjoy "just a quick one", or your own constructed missions, or auto-generated with or without historical "correct" squadrons and events, or even historical campaigns where you are taking part......
Your choice to spend a little, or a lot of time. It is always fun, which ever choice you make.

The special thing : you can fly a mission over and over again. It will
never ever  be the same. Every time, your and the game's AI decisions
result in a different outcome.

Trouble getting RedBaron3d to run ?  here is the solution. Easy, tested, works. Both Linux and Windows A ready to run linux-system to play RedBaron 3D and/or Steam Games, See below for how to use instructions OR A ready to unpack and run RedBaron3d on Windows 10 zip (Red Baron only) tested on Windows10 (works on lower version too...)  : download it here How-to : unzip to your drive. (c:\ or anywere you want) Note: RedBaron does NOT change anything to your windows system. - Set compatibility to Windows XP (servicepack 3) for baronMMP.exe baron.exe rssplyr.exe  (= the patch manager, you will want to use this, in the end. and you are ready to go. When you see this,   You will need the CD of course. ( unless you know where to click a few times... ) Glide / 3DFX tested on intel HD graphics, works. (zeckenzacks(c) 3DFX voodoo emulation software. others are in the download, if needed) Here are  more downloads with 3dFX wrappers for installed features / patches, see below. they are equal to the linux version. RedBaron3d features included (both versions) Installed - Patch manager for RB3d (Note: this is not CM11, which is a campaign manager for single play. CM11 is also included, you need to set it up yourself ) - High Quality planes / objects patch - River fix - 3d / DirectDraw High Quality terrain - slew sights - balloons - numbered maps / original maps - low detail objects with corrected colour: the gray buildings stay gray from a far distance (in the regular game they go from white to gray....) installable via Patch manager : - real front patch.with standard Flight Model : balloons, live front ( flak, anti aircraft machineguns, keep altitude or die.... ) - ditto with real front Flight Model - WFP MMP skins (western front patch for SP : skins ported to MMP, very nice looking) - Promised Land terrain patch additional: CM11 installable Western front patch, zip version (earlier) and final ( WFPv2.exe) - if your video card supports it (requires openGL) :  Voodoo Graphics (3DFX) emulations for much better graphics - a set of voodoo emulators for you to try out. (basically the emulator is a a single file, glide2x.dll, which goes in the same directory as baron*.exe ) On Linux: you can run from a portable USB disk (or a really very fast big thumbdrive......), download is here, to play redbaron3d (on wine/linux and/or games on steam (native linux) Try it out. if you like it, you can then install it into a separate partition on your laptop/pc or a portable disk. For only playing Red Baron : only 16 GB needed. Steam as well ?  You will need (much) more. 60 GB would be minimum to have some games loaded. please note: steam on linux can and will start windows games/apps if they are installed on wine, meaning you can run windows and linux games (css, etc) side-by-side on linux / wine. Windows Software to put the download on a USB  disk (or stick) is here passvv0rds (please set your own password immediately after startup ! ) me / itisme game / game root / itsroot some screenshots of the installation once you booted the USB stick : initial screen before starting the Linux itself boot logging. never mind that...... please be patient. depending on your disk it can take a couple of minutes, especially on a USB stick.  portable hard disk very much recommended. do and dont's and some license things. mostly Steam / Valve . It will then install your desktop and the installation icons for RedBaron and for Steam The final installation is done. Now click on install "red baron" some components get installed If you do not need .Net, (for other games...) you can cancel that installation.... Finally, it tries to start Red Baron, to see if all is functioning If ever necessary, you can always reinstall Red Baron with this icon. Clicking the Red Baron icon starts Red Baron Multiplayer, (MMP) and it starts the Red Baron  patchmanager for you, a multi function tool for RedBaron. select server select plane, and airfield :/       click fly now..........   and there you are... hit f4 and see yourself on the airfield Patch manager From here, you can   start and restart multiplayer (MMP) or singleplayer redbaron (SP) AND manage all your patches. You can add "Known servers" (this goes into mplayer.ini) just an example : ; This file contains the names and/or IP addresses of known game ; servers.  Any additions to this list will be checked for inclusion ; in the list of available servers.  Note that each entry should be ; of the form 'Server=ip_address'. If the server operator changes IP, or portnumber, they will become useless. NOT recommended for general use, meta's are much more reliable because they have the information directly from the game servers themselves when they are still running. If you anyway want static IP's, try RSSplayer (available on downloads page of this site). As far as I know the only software that enables you to add current running servers to your mplayer.ini. it knows cloud-kit.nl, any other meta's address you have to provide yourself. RSSplayer has a much more usefull function: managing your filepatches in a simple way. activate them / deactivate them with a simple click.  check it out here
